THE DEEJAYS
Frank Popp (TV Eye records,
Dusserdorf / DE)
![]() |
Frank Popp started djing
in 1996 in Duesseldorfs legendary club Ratinger Hof, where he got quite
successful, and booking in
other German clubs followed. Two years later he got to know Henry Storch (owner of Unique) and both found out they have a similar record collection and musical background, starting from 60s garage-punk, beat, soul, RnB, jazz, funk to 80s/90s punkrock and garage to modern clubsounds and electronica. That was good because a bit later Popp deejayed also on Saturdays at Unique, where it was possible to mix a lot of different styles together- that was exactly what he was looking for. At this time he fell in love with 7inch records even more and started collecting the rarer 45s, as he was mainly digging for LPs before. The biggest part of his record collection is indie, punk, alternative rock and various 60s 'n' 70s stuff. |

In 1998 he started to host
the regular Thursdays at Unique which was planned to be a 60s/mod- night
with northern soul, RnB, Hammond groove, freakbeat and garage, played
by a lot of famous band and deejays. Some highlights were Brian Auger,
Fuzztones, Bobby Hebb or JTQ. It was also time to do a new record since
nearly 3 years: Frank Popp created THE FRANK POPP ENSEMBLE, begun to produce
some tunes for his CATWALK EP, which was released in Unique Records, followed
in 2001 by HIP TEENS DON'T WEAR BLUE JEANS and his first album RIDE ON.
That finally opened the borders to conquer decks and minibars every weekend
worldwide. His Top 5 List: |
